James, my husband and I are new-ish to video podcasting. We have completed 7 episodes of our Creative Revolution Show. It is a laborious process, no matter how to do it. My husband tried recording with the free version of Riverside, too, and it caused all the problems you mentioned. He even did a trial of the paid version and it wasn't much better. We are also using fairly new, powerful MacBook Pro computers, so it was disappointing to say the least.
After that time-consuming debacle, we went with Zoom to record the interviews. My husband has the upgraded version that allows more than 45-minutes, although we don't usually need more since our goal is to keep the finished show under half an hour. My husband uses Final Cut Pro for video editing. If necessary, he uses LogicPro for audio.
I have success with Adobe Premiere Pro for video. I have used both Adobe Audition and GarageBand for advance audio editing, although Premiere Pro has basic options.
The only free app I have used and can count on is GarageBand. Sorry I am no help with other free alternatives.
All in all, video podcasting is a pain in the ass, but we keep doing it. I guess it's our experiences as recording/performing musicians that keeps us dedicated to arduous processes for little to no money, haha. Your header photo speaks the truth.
Best wishes, and feel free to share your podcasts if and when you move forward!

If you are on Windows try Microsoft's CapCut at https://www.capcut.com/. I have abandoned the other stuff I'd used for years. And the basic program is FREE!
Help! I need podcasting and video editing advice...
Get the free version of Davincii Resolve. That and premier are my go to for editing. Both can sync and touch up audio tracks easily.
Glad there are people who can give good advice. Afraid too old to give any advice on podcast editing. Good luck James!

If you are on MAC, they have an online version.
I can probably help you out with the edit. Email me: my handle at gmail.
As far as the embedding other video. If it’s something like rumble, take a screenshot and link the video to the image. You can’t embed everything.
